ウールは、身体で感じる心地よさだけでなく、高い機能性をあわせ持つ天然素材です。厳しい自然環境で生きる羊が自らを守るために進化させてきたその特性（断熱性、調湿性、調温性、防汚性、吸音性）は、一年を通じて快適な「暮らしの地面」を支えます。
Evolved to protect sheep in harsh environments, wool is a natural material that combines comfort with high functionality. Its inherent properties – insulation, humidity control, temperature regulation, stain resistance, and sound absorption – support a comfortable ground for daily life throughout the year.
1. 断熱性 Thermal Insulation
繊維のねじれ（クリンプ構造）が体積の約60%〜80%の空気を内包し、空気の層（デッドエア）を形成します。ウールは他の天然繊維に比べて熱伝導率が低いため、冬は冷気を遮断して暖かさを保ち、夏は外熱の伝わりを抑えて室内の涼しさを維持する断熱効果を発揮します。
The crimp structure of the fiber encloses 60% to 80% air by volume, creating an insulating layer of dead air. Because wool has lower thermal conductivity than other natural fibers, it blocks cold air to retain warmth in winter and keeps out heat to maintain coolness in summer.
2. 調湿性 Humidity Control
周囲の湿度変化に応じて水分を吸収・放出する調湿機能を備えています。湿度が上昇すれば湿気を吸い込み、乾燥すれば放出することで、室内の湿度を適正に保ちます。これは、ウール繊維の表面が水を弾く「疎水性」の膜で覆われている一方で、繊維内部は「親水性」の高いアミノ酸構造を持つためです。自重の約30%の水分を、表面を濡らすことなく蒸気として取り込めるため、表面は常にドライに保たれ、冬の結露や夏の過湿を抑えます。
Wool absorbs and releases moisture in response to changes in humidity, maintaining the indoor humidity balance. While the fiber's surface is covered with a water-repellent (hydrophobic) membrane, the interior has a moisture-attracting (hydrophilic) amino acid structure. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture as vapor without becoming damp to the touch, keeping the surface dry in all seasons.
3. 調温性 Temperature Regulation
ウールが湿気を吸収する際、水分子が繊維の分子構造と結合することで「吸着熱」が発生します。肌が触れた瞬間の微かな湿気に反応し、繊維自らがわずかに発熱します。逆に、暑い季節には、蓄えた水分を放出する際に周間の熱を奪う「気化熱」の原理により、表面温度の上昇が抑えられます。ミクロの繊維単位で起きるこれらの反応が、四季を通じて快適な表面温度を保ちます。
When wool absorbs moisture, water molecules bind with the fiber's structure to generate "heat of sorption," warming the surface slightly in response to microscopic skin moisture in winter. Conversely, in warm seasons, it releases stored moisture. Through evaporative cooling, this process draws heat away to suppress surface temperature rises. These microscopic reactions maintain a comfortable surface temperature year-round.
4. 防汚性 Stain Resistance
繊維の表面が「エピキューティクル」という薄い疎水性の膜で覆われており、水溶性の汚れが浸透するのを防ぎます。さらに、繊維表面の「スケール（鱗状の表皮）」が汚れを物理的に留まりにくくする構造を持ち、高い防汚性を発揮します。
The fiber's surface is covered with a thin, water-repellent membrane called the epicuticle, which prevents water-based stains from penetrating. Additionally, the scales (cuticles) on the fiber surface physically inhibit dirt from adhering, rendering the wool naturally stain-resistant.
5. 吸音性 Sound Absorption
高密度に重なり合う繊維の隙間が「多孔質構造」となり、音が入ることにより空気摩擦が生じ、音のエネルギーが熱エネルギーへと変換されて減衰します。一般的なフローリングの吸音率が0.02前後であるのに対し、厚みのあるウールじゅうたんは0.3〜0.5の吸音率を示します。床面への衝撃音を和らげ、室内での反響を抑えることで、静かな空間を保ちます。
Sound entering the porous structure of densely layered fibers creates air friction, converting acoustic energy into thermal energy and thereby dampening the sound. While standard wood flooring has a sound absorption coefficient of around 0.02, a thick wool rug exhibits a coefficient of 0.3 to 0.5. It reduces the impact of footsteps and suppresses indoor echoes, maintaining a quiet space.

山形緞通では創業以来、製作したすべての製品記録を保存し、アフターケア体制を整えています。品質の基礎となる「上質な羊毛」「堅牢な染色」「緻密な織り」。この三点を備えたじゅうたんは、定期的なメンテナンス・クリーニングを行うことで、末永くご愛用いただけます。自社工房では、専門の職人がじゅうたんを水槽に浸して丸洗いし、乾燥室で完全に乾燥。表面に再びシャーリング仕上げを行い、丁寧に整えます。防虫、防カビ加工も施しますので、お手入れ後も安心してじゅうたんをお使いいただけます。5年に一度のメンテナンス・クリーニングを推奨しています。いつでもご相談を承ります。
Since the founding, YAMAGATA DANTSU has maintained records of every Dantsu rug crafted, establishing a comprehensive aftercare system. Dantsu Rugs featuring the three foundations of quality—superior wool, robust dyeing, and intricate weaving—can be used for generations with periodic maintenance and cleaning. In the workshop, specialized artisans wash the rugs by immersing them in a tank, then dry them completely in a dedicated drying room. The surface is then carefully refinished through a shearing process. Anti-moth and anti-mold treatments are also applied, ensuring the rug remains safe and protected for continued use. Maintenance and cleaning are recommended once every five years. Consultations are available at any time.

週に数回、掃除機をかけていただくだけで、十分に美観を保てます。
Daily Care
Vacuuming a few times a week is sufficient to maintain its appearance.
汚れについて
高密度なウールは、汚れがつきにくい素材です。ただし、液体をこぼした際はシミを防ぐため、素早い処置が必要です。乾燥する前に乾いた布やペーパーを押し当て、水分をしっかりと吸い取ってください。
Stains
High-density wool is naturally stain-resistant. However, liquid spills require prompt attention to prevent permanent staining. If a spill occurs, blot the area with a dry cloth or paper towel to absorb the moisture before it dries.
床暖房への対応
すべての製品が床暖房に対応しています。接着剤を用いるハンドタフテッド製品は一般的に熱に弱く床暖房不可とされるのに対し、山形緞通では熱や湿度、水分に強い特注の独自ラテックスを裏面に使用しており、床暖房環境下でも問題なくご使用いただけます。
Underfloor Heating
YAMAGATA DANTSU rugs are all compatible with underfloor heating. While hand-tufted products are generally considered unsuitable due to heat-sensitive adhesives, a custom-formulated proprietary latex backing is utilized here. It remains resilient against heat, humidity, and moisture, ensuring reliable, trouble-free use.
家具跡の修復
家具の設置による凹み跡は、蒸気（スチーマー）を当てることで、ウール本来の弾力によって元の毛足に戻ります。重量家具による深い跡については、専門的な修復をご相談ください。
Restoration
Indentations from furniture can be returned to their original pile by applying steam, which revives the wool's natural resilience. For deeper marks caused by heavy furniture, please consult us for professional restoration.
